PAST ANNOUNCEMENTS - ANUNCIOS PASADOS VIII Edición del Certamen Literario "Escribo en español" para los estudiantes de High School del Estado de Washington. A todos los maestros y maestras de Español de High School , tanto públicas como privadas, del estado de Washington. El Center for Spanish Studies , institución en la que colaboran el Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia de España, la Oficina de la Superintendente de Instrucción Pública (OSPI) y la Universidad de Washington, se complace en convocar la octava edición del Certamen Literario, “Escribo en español”. Uniéndonos a la celebración del cuarto centenario de su publicación, el tema de este año se inspira en palabras escritas por Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra en su novela El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha (1605): “¿No le dije que no eran sino molinos de viento?” Animamos a los estudiantes a mostrar su creatividad, en textos escritos en español, exponiendo lo que esta frase significa para ellos, cuándo podrían emplearla, recordando ocasiones en las que se dieron cuenta de que aquello que consideraron importante o peligroso resultó finalmente no ser nada o ago bien distinto... Existen dos secciones en este certamen: la de los hablantes de español como lengua materna y la de los hablantes de otras lenguas. Los textos pueden estar escritos en prosa o en verso. Los textos en prosa no deben superar las 800 palabras; los poemas no tendrán más de 60 versos. El maestro o maestra enviará una selección de los trabajos de sus estudiantes, hasta un máximo de 15 por cada uno de sus grupos. Por favor, envíe sólo un trabajo por estudiante. Los trabajos se remitirán por correo electrónico, junto a una hoja de participación por cada trabajo, en un documento Word , interlineado 1.5, fuente Times New Roman, tamaño 12, a la dirección electrónica del Center for Spanish Studies , spnrectr@u.washington.edu , antes de la 1:00 p.m. del lunes 6 de marzo de 2006. El Jurado estará compuesto por Helen Malagon, State Supervisor for Bilingual Education , y cuatro profesores de Español de la Universidad de Washington. La decisión del Jurado será inapelable y resolverá las situaciones no previstas en esta convocatoria. La entrega de premios tendrá lugar en el Capitolio, Olympia, en una fecha que se comunicará oportunamente a los maestros -quienes la transmitirán a sus estudiantes-, así como a través de la lista de correo electrónico del Center for Spanish Studies . Todos los ganadores deberán acudir a la ceremonia de entrega de premios o bien delegar en otra persona para que recoja el premio. La participación en este Certamen supone la aceptación de todas sus bases. Premios y Menciones Honoríficas: • Primer premio, en cada sección y modalidad, sendas becas “A/D Electronics” para realizar un curso de verano, en España, sobre la lengua española y su cultura, y Diploma. • Segundo y tercer premios, en cada sección y modalidad, un lote de libros y materiales didácticos ofrecidos por la Embajada de España y Diploma. • Primer premio, segundo y tercero, un ejemplar de El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha , de Miguel de Cervantes, ofrecido por el Departamento de Español y Portugués de la Universidad de Washington. • Las Menciones Honoríficas en cada sección y modalidad recibirán un Diploma. • Publicación de los trabajos premiados y las Menciones Honoríficas en Escribo en español, 2006, a cargo de la Embajada de España y OSPI. To all the Spanish teachers in private and public High Schools in the state of Washington
The Center for Spanish Studies, a cooperative institution between the Ministry of Education of Spain, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and the University of Washington, is pleased to announce the Eighth Annual Spanish Literary Context “ Escribo en español ” (I write in Spanish). As a homage to Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra and his novel El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha (1605) we have been inspired by his words to choose this year´s topic: “ ¿No le dije que no eran sino molinos de viento? ” (Didn't I tell you that these were nothing but windmills?). Students are encouraged to further their creative writing skills by writing originals in Spanish about what this sentence means for them, when they could be using the sentence, remember occasions were they found out that something considered important or dangerous was ultimately nothing or another thing… There are two sections: one for native Spanish speakers and the other for native speakers of other languages. The works can be written in prose or verse. The prose works should not exceed 800 words and the poems should not exceed 60 verses. You, as their teacher, will be sending the selected works from your students, up to 15 per group maximum. Please, send only one entry per student. All entries should be submitted via e-mail, attached to the enclosed cover sheet, in a word document using 1.5 spaces and Times New Roman Font, 12, to the Center for Spanish Studies at spnrectr@u.washington.edu prior to 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 6th, 2006. Helen Malagon, State Supervisor for Bilingual Education, and a panel of Spanish teachers from the University of Washington will evaluate the submitted papers. Their selections will be final, and as a judging panel they will resolve any unforeseen circumstances not anticipated in this contest. Prizes will be awarded at the Capitol, in Olympia, for each of the sections. The teachers will be notified of the exact date of the awards ceremony for them to communicate to their students, as well as through the mailing list of the Center for Spanish Studies. All the winners must be at the ceremony to receive their prizes or send a representative. Participants in this Literary Contest agree to follow all the rules as outlined in this letter. The prizes will include: • The first prize in prose and the first prize in verse will be an “A/D Electronics” scholarship to attend a summer seminar in Spain about Spanish Language and Culture and a certificate. • Second and third prizes in each section will be receiving a set of educational materials and books from the Embassy of Spain, and a certificate . • The first, second and third prizes will be receiving a copy of El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha , by Miguel de Cervantes, contributed by the Division of Spanish and Portuguese, at the University of Washington. • Honorable mentions in each section will be receiving a certificate. • The first, second, third and honorable mentioned participant´s works will appear in the 2006 edition of Escribo en español , published by the Embassy of Spain and OSPI.
